Corinthians set a unique record and further cement their dominance

Corinthians llegó a 21 partidos sin perder en la CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina
  • With Wednesday's 5-1 victory over Independiente Santa Fe, Corinthians extended their unbeaten run in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina to 21 matches.

  • The streak began in 2023 with a 1-0 win over Colo-Colo, following their defeat to Boca Juniors in 2022, and spans their title-winning campaigns in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Corinthians' last defeat in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina came on 22 October 2022, when Boca Juniors claimed a 2-1 victory in the quarter-finals in Quito. Since then, the Brazilian side have gone through three full editions, won three titles and played 21 matches without defeat, recording 16 wins and five draws. According to Opta, it is the longest unbeaten run in the competition's history, with Corinthians reaching the milestone on Wednesday thanks to their 5-1 victory over Independiente Santa Fe.

The journey began in Bogotá on 6 October 2023, with a 1-0 victory over Colo-Colo at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, courtesy of a second-half penalty from Millene. That Corinthians side won all three of their group-stage matches, overcame Internacional on penalties in the semi-finals following a 1-1 draw, and defeated Palmeiras 1-0 in the final at the Pascual Guerrero in Cali, once again thanks to a goal from Millene. It was the club's fourth title.

In 2024, in Paraguay, Corinthians' unbeaten run brought them face to face with Boca Juniors once again. Their first meeting, in the group stage, ended in a goalless draw; the second, in the semi-finals, saw Corinthians claim a 1-0 victory through a Gabi Zanotti goal. In the final at the Defensores del Chaco, the 'Brabas' defeated Independiente Santa Fe 2-0, with Vic Albuquerque and Érika on the scoresheet, to lift their fifth trophy.

The 2025 edition, held in Argentina, tested their unbeaten streak right to the very end. The final against Deportivo Cali at the Estadio Florencio Sola in Banfield finished goalless and was decided by a penalty shootout. Corinthians converted all five of their spot-kicks to win 5-3 and celebrate their third consecutive title.

In Ecuador, Corinthians began their title defence against the same opponents who had been on the receiving end when their unbeaten run started three years earlier: a 2-0 victory over Colo-Colo. That was followed by a 7-0 thrashing of Caracas, which secured their place in the quarter-finals. Then came Wednesday's 21st match of the streak, against the side they had beaten in the 2021 and 2024 finals. Kelly Ibargüen gave Santa Fe the lead, but Duda Sampaio equalised before Corinthians went on to claim a 5-1 victory, with Uruguay's Belén Aquino scoring twice. According to Opta, it was the 'Brabas' fourth win in as many meetings with the Colombian side in the competition.

Experience also has its place in this story. Tamires provided an assist on Wednesday at the age of 39 years and 11 days, making her the second-oldest player to achieve the feat across the last five editions, according to Opta. Only her team-mate Gabi Zanotti ranks above her, having registered an assist in 2024 at the age of 39 years and 221 days.

Their current form underlines a dominance that shows no signs of slowing down. Corinthians have won six of the last nine editions of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina, including the three most recent titles in succession. In Ecuador, they are pursuing a seventh crown, which would also be their fourth in a row. Since that night in Bogotá, no team has managed to beat them.
