The CONMEBOL Libertadores Group Stage draw has once again paired Palmeiras (Brazil) and Cerro Porteño (Paraguay). It will be the eighth edition of the tournament in which the two sides face each other. They are part of Group F, alongside Junior Barranquilla (Colombia) and Sporting Cristal (Peru).
Palmeiras holds a clear advantage in the head-to-head record. In 16 CONMEBOL Libertadores meetings, the Brazilian side has won 10, drawn four, and lost just two matches.
The matchup, already a classic of the continental competition, has become even more frequent in recent editions. Over the past five years, Palmeiras and Cerro Porteño have only failed to meet in 2024.
The Paraguayan side’s drought has persisted since 2018. Cerro Porteño defeated Palmeiras on August 30 of that year at Allianz Parque, but it was not enough to avoid elimination in the Round of 16, as the Brazilian team had won the first leg in Paraguay 2–0.
The CONMEBOL Libertadores Group Stage is scheduled to begin in the week of April 7. The phase will run through the end of May, with its final matchday taking place between the 26th and 28th.
